Preparing for this review, I’ve learned almost all the popular Mac DVD rippers on the market. The most commonly-used ripping software, however, according to users on the forums, is not as effective as people would like to believe. That’s why we’re here with another – MacX DVD Ripper Pro. This DVD ripper underwhelmed me at first glance. It looked like nothing different, just a program similar to Handbrake. Mobile Media Converter software is also a good alternative to handbrake for mac software. This software is available for free for mac users to convert videos in popular audio and video formats like wma or mp3. This software is mostly used to convert videos in the mobile supported audio formats. Download HandBrake for free. A tool to convert video from nearly any format to modern codecs. HandBrake is an open-source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded video transcoder, available for MacOS X, Linux and Windows. Why should I select it over the famous free DVD ripper for Mac- Handbrake? But after spending some time testing the software, I have another feeling. Because a true ripper doesn’t need to be mind-boggling to be a must-have. Throw any DVD, it rips. Ask a user their biggest gripe about Handbrake, or any other DVD ripping program and the overwhelming answer will be the incapability to deal with DVD protections – they simply crash or refuse to read the DVD when it is protected. MacX DVD Ripper Pro is claimed to be the only program that can break any schemes, and its performance blows my mind. I can say unequivocally that the DVD ripper really works. I have tested different kinds of DVD types, ranging from new DVD releases, Disney 99-title DVDs, workout DVDs, TV series DVDs, and other damaged or unplayable DVDs, it rips and nary has a problem occurred. Among those discs are some commercial movies protected by CSS, Region Code, Disney X-project DRM or Sony ARccOS protections. As soon as I turn those DVDs to, or other free DVD rippers for Mac, I keep getting errors. Rip DVD to any format, you say it. Beyond that, the Handbrake alternative is practically peerless in the output formats. Its official website says it has 370+ codecs and 400+ presets built-in. I haven’t counted or used that many, but as far as I can see, MacX DVD Ripper Pro already gives most of the free or paid Mac DVD rippers out there a run. For example, when I’m left with only two choices between MP4 and MKV using Handbrake, I can now freely rip DVD to mp4, h.264, mkv, mov, avi, flv, 3gp and many more. ![]() Speed, Speed, Speed! The most significant advantage of MacX DVD Ripper Pro is the ripping speed that no competitor can match. It’s advertised as the world’s fastest DVD ripper for macOS. This trait is especially welcome as I have thousands of titles in my collection and I surely don’t want to spend like an hour for one disc. To test how fast the Handbrake alternative can rip a DVD, I compared the performance to between MacX DVD Ripper Pro and Handbrake. Air server app for mac. The results are as follows: MacX DVD Ripper Pro ripped a full DVD movie into MP4 in 5.8 minutes. The Mac DVD ripper was running consistently at 280 fps and my CPU was running at 150% of its usage. Handbrake placed a distant second, taking 20 minutes and showing a speed of 116fps and a CPU usage of 780%. Again, this speed benchmark reveals the winner clearly. The superfast performance of the Handbrake alternative is backed by Intel’s QSV hardware acceleration tech, which is able to finish a ripping even within 5 minutes if the computer is highly configured. The QSV tech is also fast enough to allow my regular web browsing, video playback or other activities at the same time. I’m sure MacX DVD Ripper Pro is not for everybody. Some people are having happy homemade DVD ripping experience with Handbrake, and some others enjoy the special MKV extract ability in MakeMKV. But for someone like me who has never been able to truly get down with some free DVD rippers for their deficient capabilities or slow performance, MacX DVD Ripper Pro is a ripper I always hoped someone would develop.
